Per corpora et diagrammata ad astra: Data visualization in corpus linguistics
🕘 09:00 – 10:00 | 📍 Aula Parva, Vilnius University
Day 2 of ICAME46 began with an engaging plenary by Lukas Sönning, who explored the evolving role of data visualization in corpus linguistics. Based on a review of over 1,200 research articles, his talk traced key trends in graph usage, from traditional bar charts and scatterplots to newer forms like dendrograms and CARTs.
Sönning emphasized the importance of clear, thoughtful design and urged researchers to approach visualization as both an analytical and communicative tool. His talk offered both a critical review of current practices and a forward-looking vision for the field.
